Panama & Baby Announcement

Daniel, Miguel, Jose, and Doug.  Miguel and Jose are good friends of the Coombs family, and now they are good friends of mine as well.  They are originally from Peru (they've lived in Utah for the past 20 years) and they are going to tour us around Peru for the next 10 days.  We arrived in Panama early Wednesday morning after a long night of travel.  Obviously we arrived too early to check in at the hotel, so we visited the Panama Canal for a couple of hours.  There was a car selling homemade empanadas and juice outside the visitor's center.  They were delicious!
The Panama Canal is impressive, but you only need to watch one boat go through and after that it becomes quite boring.  Tis a very slow process.

The four capitanos
Today we spent a significant portion of our day serving in the Panama City Temple, which is located five minutes from our hotel.

Jose and Miguel
Miguel and Doug.........on vacation...........working. :)
Halfway through the day we took a break and drove to a mall in downtown Panama City.  We passed a neat-looking building.
American........eating a Lebanese shwarma.......in Panama
Back at the Panama City Temple's guest housing building waiting for the 4:00pm session to begin.  Look, Sam, I'm in the Family History Center!  Aren't you proud? ;)
Okay, so I have to admit that I simply opened the door, turned on the lights, and had Jose take the pictures for me.  Didn't do any family history work, at least not in that room.
I love this painting in the guest housing building.  I've never seen it before today.  Little Jesus and the wise men.
I want to mention a few neat experiences we had today.  First, I was able to participate in all of the saving ordinances for a deceased person named Archie Ray Trout Jr...........on the same day!  I've never done that before.  And Archie was sealed to his parents by Carl B. Pratt (an emeritus seventy), the great-great grandson of Parley P. Pratt.  Parley P. Pratt was the first missionary in South America for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Second, Miguel had a really cool encounter at the temple.  There was an older brother (Brother Kerby) in our afternoon session with us.  We found out that Brother Kerby was the first missionary from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chiclayo, Peru (in 1961), which is where Miguel is from.  Small world.
Meanwhile, Sam took the kids for a humid, Panama-like experience at the aquarium.

Look at those two cuties!
And now, for the best news of the day............we're having another girl!  Sam went to the doctor today to find out the gender of our next baby, who will arrive in late March/early April.  They FaceTimed me to let the balloons out of the bag.  Wow, another girl.  Douglas wanted a brother.  Most people thought we would have another boy.  I was excited either way.
Penny, on the other hand, was not happy about the news.
She's jealous already!
Just kidding.  She was mad about her balloon escaping to the ceiling.

Yep, she's in there.

What a great day!
