Daniel receives the Melchizedek Priesthood, ordained to office of Elder

From the Journal of Daniel Kelly Ogden [Daniel's father]:

June 1, 1997

At 12 noon Garth Fisher, high councillor, and Douglas Eddy, our bishop, arrived, along with my mother and Craig Gunn, to participate in and observe a note-worthy occasion. I conferred on my firstborn son, Daniel Ben Ogden, the Melchizedek Priesthood and ordained him to the office of Elder. Earlier in the morning Daniel and I studied Doctrine and Covenants 84 and 107 together to remind us that this greatest power in the universe is what God used to create the worlds and what all the prophets used to preach the Word with power to convert. I, and the brethren united, blessed him to understand that this is the power that allows the other great privileges: to receive Temple knowledge, ordinances, and blessings, to serve the mission to which he has been called, and eventually to marry in the Temple.

It was a great sabbath day, with priesthood meeting, Sunday School, two fast and testimony meetings, Daniel’s ordination, and a fireside. Family gospel study consisted of a brief message on prayer and my gift to each of the eight in our family of a little prayer rug from Turkiye. They really liked the idea of remembering one another every time we lay down the little rug to pray. There was an especially good spirit and unity in our home today.
