On the road again! Last week we headed south to attend Charly's baptism. Charly is an Arizona-based cousin of Douglas, Penny, Diana, and Layth.
We spent our first night in Flagstaff, Arizona, and the next morning we visited the largest, best-preserved meteor crater site in the world.
They had interesting music playing on the speakers outside the visitor center.
We spent the next four nights at a fun Airbnb in Mesa, Arizona. On our first morning in Mesa, I took Douglas and his cousin, Krew, to do baptisms for the dead at the Mesa Temple.
Penny and Diana played with their cousins at a park while we were at the temple.
Following our temple visit, we went to play at Slick City. The children are pictured here with their cousins, Krew, Jarren, Charly, and Reed.
Later that evening, some of us attended the flag football games of Reed (pictured) and his brother, Krew.

Saturday, September 26th: Charly was baptized this morning! Here she is with her parents, Seth and McCall.
Douglas played the piano for Charly's baptism.

Charly and her paternal grandparents, Doug and Margaret.

We spent the rest of the day playing at the Airbnb.
Kendrick has a unique style of pool play.
Sunday morning, before church, Sam and I had a pleasure of visiting one of our neighbors, who is currently serving his mission in Gilbert, Arizona. Elder Jordan's mother asked if we could deliver a birthday cake to her son. We delivered it on his birthday.
We attended church with Seth and McCall and family, at their ward, and played at the Airbnb the rest of the day.
We left Mesa on Monday morning and drove to our next stop: The Grand Canyon. When we arrived at the parking lot, Penny saw this RV and asked, "Curse America?"
We endured a few minutes of rain right after we arrived, and there was a cold breeze blowing, but wow, the clouds made for some gorgeous photos.
We took a shuttle bus to various stops along the rim of the Grand Canyon. In this photo, Layth is enjoying many national and international germs.
If you ask the kids what their favorite part about the Grand Canyon was, they will tell you it was the pool at the hotel. They didn't care too much for "the big hole in the ground."
Mom and son relaxing at the hotel.
The next day, we drove north to our next destination: Panguitch, Utah and Bryce Canyon. We loved our two-night stay at an Airbnb listing called "Grandpa's Farmhouse @ Stoney Farms".
Diana loved feeding all the animals.
Feeding the deer.
They even had a couple of Emus!
Holding baby rabbits.
Roasting marshmallows on our first night at Stoney Farms.
We visited Bryce Canyon, which is located 30 minutes from Panguitch.
Playing in the visitor center for a few minutes.
Once again, the wind was cold but it was a beautiful day for photos.
Shadow Layth
Penny wasn't feeling well the day we went to Bryce Canyon.
Layth finally gave up and took a nap.
We went back to Stoney Farms to take a break and relax before our late-night activity.
This was our late-night activity. It was so cool! And cold! They set up powerful telescopes and you spend 9pm to midnight learning about astronomy and looking at things a looooooong way away. I saw Saturn!
Here we are taking a hot chocolate break during our telescope tour. Our tour guide was giving us a presentation on various theories as to why we have not yet experienced communication with extraterrestrial beings. How nice it is to have the gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives. It doesn't answer all questions (yet!), but at least I don't have to wonder whether or not we are alone in the universe.
Douglas doesn't like the previous picture. He says his face looks weird. We agree with him. 😂 Aside from this blip in time, Douglas is a good-looking young man. And of our four children, Douglas enjoyed the astronomy tour the most. Layth was warm and bundled up and asleep in his car seat the whole time. We left a bit early when we couldn't handle the cold anymore.
We experienced a huge change in temperatures on this trip. It was almost 100 degrees in Arizona. It was in the 40s during our dark sky tour in Bryce Canyon.
Now we are home. We love our adventures, and it's always nice to come home.
